Dear First Grade Parents:
Wow! The holiday break is almost here... and we have SO much to do!
Our Holiday concert (all of first grade) is set for next Tuesday, Dec. 15th at 2 PM in the school cafeteria. Your child can wear either holiday dress or jeans and a red shirt for the performance. We are looking for donations of small cookies and punch to serve after the performance. Please remember that the kids have P.E on Tuesdays and will also have lunch and a quick afternoon break so if you are worried about nice clothes getting dirty, you might want to think about arriving a few minutes early to help them change clothes.

Please help me and the other teachers who are doing testing and send in note or a quick email if your child is NOT going to be in school, especially between now and the last day of class which is Dec. 16th and it's a 1/2 day with NO lunch and NO afterschool. I want to make sure everybody can pick up their report card before the break.

Please make sure you have read all the "candy cane" supplemental newsletter that was attached to this week's regular newsletter. I'm encouraging all parents to make sure your child leaves jewelry (if it is big and clunky or expensive) and toys at home. We have had a big problem with toys being misplaced or brought out when we are trying to get work done.

As mentioned in the newsletter, there is NO spelling test this week.

Thanks for your help!! Mrs. C

Thank you to everybody who made the Thanksgiving Feast such a success!!! I hope everybody had a wonderful, restful holiday with family and friends. We will be starting a new spelling list this week. This is the last week to turn in the $8 and permission slip for the field trip next February to see the live theatre show at the Fox Theatre. I cannot take your child off school property without the permission slip and money. We have to pre-pay the tickets in order to ensure we have seats for the performance.

Now that it is getting cold, please make sure you have labeled all your child's outerwear. The school has 2 different style sweatshirts available for purchase in the front office. These sweatshirts can be worn all day in class.

We are also going to have an all first grade Holiday Performance on Tuesday, Dec. 15th @ 2 PM. It will be held in the school cafeteria. We will be collecting donated holiday cookies to serve after the performance. More details to follow!
Thanks, Mrs. C

Parents: The first grade classes are in charge of bringing HOT corn to the Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, Nov. 24 for the entire student body and staff. More information will be sent home in this Monday's Class Newsletter. We will need dishes of ready-to-eat hot corn delivered either with your student before school on the 24th, or brought to school by 9:30 AM. Please label any and all containers with your full name, your child's name and grade level IF you want to have the dishes set aside and returned to you.

Tuesday, Nov. 24 is our last day of class before the Thanksgiving break. Regular class will resume on Monday, Nov. 30th. Please let me know ahead of time if you anticipate that your child will miss any days of school during our busy holiday season! We have a LOT of things going on, including testing and it really helps us plan accordingly if we know about absences.

Thank you to all the parents who have sent in Lysol anti-bacterial wipes! We're doing our best to keep the class clean and germ free :)

Lastly, my annual "First Grade Student Recipe book" will be sent home a few days before Thanksgiving. As always, it is a great way to share holiday traditions with your family! It is always amazing to listen to the kids tell me all the great details about what they remember about family traditions such as Thanksgiving!! Happy Holidays to the entire class!! Mrs. C

Parents:

It is starting to get chilly in the mornings. If you send your child to school with a jacket or sweater, please make sure that it has his or her full name in it, in case it gets misplaced. Also, please remember that in order to wear a sweatshirt or sweater in class, it has to conform to the dress code of being white, red or navy in color.

We are starting to collect BIG bags of candy for the Harvest Festival which is going to be held on October 30 from 6 to 9 PM at the LAKESIDE campus of LPA. If you feel you could volunteer for 1/2 hour or an hour, please let me know! The class that brings in the most candy earns a class party :) Thanks for your support! Mrs. C

Dear Parents:
We are off to an exciting start to a new school year! The whole class has been hard at work with projects that will be on display during our Open House/Book Fair which will be held on Wednesday, August 26th, from 6 to 8 PM. I will be working in the library to help out with the book fair, but feel free to have your child show you around the classroom and take a look at their projects which will be on their desks. Then please stop by and say "hi" and buy a book or two for your child to read with you to increase their fluency and vocabulary!
September snack calendars will be coming out before the end of August.
Thanks! Mrs. C
