We will NOT be having a spelling test this week because it is a short week. However, I am going to post the words for next week (September 12) so the kids have extra time to practice them.

Upcoming Dates and events:

Sept. 7 "duds for dollars" dress down day for $1. No offensive language or graphics, short shorts ( more than 2 inches above the knee) flip flops or spaghetti straps.

Sept 9. Mid quarter ends.

Sept. 20 Skate Night. See Link for more details

Please parents help your child to remember his/her backpack and homework folder every day!! Also, they should be doing the "B" side of the Saxon math nightly for homework. Starting in mid-Sept. a reading log will be REQUIRED of each student to be turned in monthly. You should be practicing having your child read to you at least 15 minutes per night.

We are still collecting small items that are laying around the house for sorting centers... (bottle caps, old keys, buttons, ) Please continue to send them in in a zip lock bag.

For those of you who wish to order Scholastic Books on-line and pay by credit card, you need to go to

www.scholastic.com/bookclubs, then select "parent", register, enter the class activation code of J2VBH and place your order. I will be sending them in for processing at the end of each month.

Week of August 22, 2011

Wow! Can't believe another week has flown by! We are finally getting into somewhat of a routine. Thanks to all the parents who have helped out in the first few days of school, whether bringing in extra supplies, comforting somebody who was missing mom or supporting the school with the discipline matrix!

The spelling words for this week are as follows:

Just like last week, your child will have the 2 page (front and back) extra supplemental spelling work sheets to complete any time during the week and turn in on Friday. We will always have a spelling test on Friday unless there is no school, a holiday or other special event.

Speaking of special events: here are some you want to keep an eye on happening around school!!

August 22 Entertainment books go on sale. There is a LOT of new cool stuff in them this year!!

August 25 Class picture day. This is a day for SCHOOL UNIFORMS ONLY.

August 29 Book Fair throughout the week.

August 31 OPEN HOUSE! The kids have been working really hard on some fun projects! Please try to stop by and say "hi" and then go to the book fair.

Hello!

Every day, your child should be bringing his/her backpack AND homework folder (it has a label at the top that has his/her name and "homework" folder on it. Also, the information on the stay home side should be pulled out and read .... the spelling list is attached to the newsletter AND a 4 page worksheet that should be turned in this Friday is attached to it.
